Since 2004, this blog has tons of topics related to English Cricket. For the first time in 24 years, England have retained the Ashes in Australia. Isn’t that a big news for me? So I won’t be doing any justice to this blog if I don’t actually blog about it. The rest of the world apart from the English are happy coz the Aussies have lost the Ashes. But being an English fan since 1992, I feel so great coz England have retained the Ashes for the first time in Aussie soil.
The past was hard for me as an English fan. But not any more. Since winning the Ashes in 2005 under Vaughan’s captaincy England slowly started to getting into winning habits. But 2006-2007 series, Australia convincingly regained the Ashes by beating England 5-0 crushing the hopes of winning an Ashes series in Australia. But under Strauss’s captaincy England won the Ashes again during the 2009 series in England. When England toured Australia this time, they had one goal in mind and that is winning the Ashes in Australia. So far this series England had just one bad Test match and are 2-1 up this series. If Aussies manage to win the Sydney Test, England will still retain the Ashes. England will hope for a win but even a draw will end the series high for England.
The performances by the English has been exceptional. Alistair Cook, Jonathan Trott, Kevin Pietersen, James Anderson, Chris Tremlett and Tim Bresnan have contributed more than their expectations. The Australians however are in a transition period and we will eventually see Ponting taken out of his captaincy after losing three Ashes series.
I hope this success for England will be a huge confidence boost in the road to the World Cup as England are already the T20 World Champions. Well played and Good luck!
