It has been sometime I blogged about Cricket and after watching the last ODI played between Sri Lanka and England I felt I should. Start of the series I felt it will be England all the way considering their performance in the last 12 months after winning the Ashes. England had a couple injury concerns though had a tough enough side to beat Sri Lanka. First Test was in England's bag but fighting Lankans pulled off the great escape ever taking advantage of England's poor fielding where they dropped more than 10 catches in the second innings. Sanath Jayasuriya, the lankan Master Blaster who retired from Test Cricker rejoined the Lankan Test squad to add bit of experience to the side but didn't play in the second Test which was won by England with some ease. Murali's magic saw the Lankans win the third Test and draw the series as he bagged 8 wickets in the second innings where he picked 11 wickets in the match.
More problems for England when the One-dayers started. The ODI player of last year Andrew Flintoff was out due to injury. The 5 match ODI series ended up in a whitewash where the Lankans won all five thanks to some serious batting performance. England kept losing players during the course of the series due to injuries. Kevin Pieterson and Paul Collingwood the two best ODI players around were among them. But at this level there aren't any excuses. English point of view they gotta do some serios thinking to get their act right in all departments before they face Pakistan as its gonna be tough than this. Lankans point of view I have no words to say. They simply outplayed the Englishmen. Skipper Mahela played some brilliant knocks. Upul Tharanga is the newest found gem for Sri Lankan Cricket. He has placed him self right at the top. Only problem is finding the perfect partner for him. Jayasuriya was dominant as ever. If you watched the last ODI where he scored 152 in just 99 balls you would know what I'm talking about.
During the match it was caught to the camera where one Lankan guy in the crowd was holding a banner with the saying 'Englang might beat Portugal but not Sri Lanka'. England were supposed to clash with Portugal that evening in the quarter finals of FIFA World Cup 2006. Unfortunately that wasn't the case. England lost to Portugal too
